Contribute to Strategic Planning at YRDSB - Upcoming Town Halls

York Region District School Board is revisioning its Multi-Year Plan (MYP) and Board Improvement Plan for Student Achievement and Well-being. The Board of Trustees is responsible for setting the strategic direction of public education in York Region public schools. The MYP incorporates the direction established by the Trustees with feedback received from all stakeholders, and will inform decision making at the Board in the years to come. Town halls will be taking place across the region and feedback collected from families and community members will inform the creation of a new MYP. Your voice is important and your input and feedback will help York Region District School Board support student achievement and well-being. There will also be other opportunities, including a survey available in April, to share your thoughts if you are unable to attend a town hall.
Please contact the office, if you are interested in attending (905) 851-0043.

Introducing Online Kindergarten Registration! Kindergarten registration for September 2018 opened on January 19, 2018. This year, our school is excited to introduce online registration for Kindergarten. We are one of a small number of schools in the Board piloting this new, optional process. If you, or someone you know, is registering a child for Kindergarten at our school, you can access the online registration information at http://bit.ly/KindergartenYRDSB. Please note that a laptop or desktop computer is strongly recommended, rather than a mobile device. Of course, families are also welcome to register in person in the school office.

All Public schools in York Region follow a Safe Arrival Program. This requires that we verify every child's absence on a daily basis. If your child will be away for school, it is very important that you report your child(ren)’s absence to the office by calling (905) 851-0043 or by submitting the information on EDSBY.  As always, our policy is that if we cannot reach you or the contact numbers on file, we are required to contact York Regional Police.

Looking Back… MARCH was a wonderful month of learning and growing at Blue Willow!   Here are a few highlights:

On March 1, 2018, Blue Willow staff and students participated in the Great Big Crunch! Together at exactly 2:30pm, we took part in ONE MILLION CRUNCHES across Canada to promote healthy eating, by biting into our fresh apples!!

SCHOOL COUNCIL FUNDRAISER COMING SOON!!!!

Monday March 26th to Monday April 16th
Blue Willow's Big Box Fundraising Event

New to our school this year is the Big Box of All Occasions Cards.  The Box is a set of 33 cards for all different occasions and includes lots of Birthday cards – all for the low price of $33. We have outlined the details of this fundraiser below in order to make this a success for our school community.
  • Each family will be provided with a starter box of cards as well as an order form.

  • The order forms are provided so you can keep track of orders placed and collection of money from sales to your friends and family.

  • Once all sales are complete and funds have been collected a single lump sum order needs to be place on School Cash Online.

  • The starter box must be returned if you are not ordering any boxes. If you choose not to participate, please send the starter box back to your child’s teacher.  Returned boxes must contain all 33 cards.

  • Otherwise, keep the starter box and deliver it to one of your customers, so please keep it in good condition.
  • For parents with multiple children, only one box of cards will be sent home. If you want to split up your sales between your children to make them eligible for the prizes, please make separate orders on school cash online.

  • The school will have a pick up day with extended hours to assist with families who are placing larger orders and cannot pick them up during school hours.
Don't forget our amazing prizes!!
  • The top selling class wins a class pizza party.

  • Grand Prize, for every three boxes of cards your family sells, their name will be placed in a draw to win a 16GB iPod Touch! No limit on the number of times you can enter, the more boxes you sell the more times your name will go into the draw for the iPod. We will also be drawing for eight $25 gift cards at local retailers like, Best Buy, Chapters, Cineplex, Toys R Us, and EB Games.

Last year our fundraising efforts were used for some great improvements to the Kindergarten outdoor area. Please remember that all funds raised will go directly towards initiatives that benefit our students.
Good luck and thank you in advance for your participation in this fundraising campaign!
Sincerely,
Blue Willow Public School School Council
