We have had a wonderful start the to new school year! September has been filled with opportunities to build relationships and establish positive learning routines to help us learn and grow together at Blue Willow.
Our Healthy Schools leaders have already established our healthy snack program, (which provides all classrooms with a bin of fresh fruit or vegetables). Through our collaborative partnership with Student Nutrition Ontario, students can access a nutritious snack at any point in the day to help nourish their growing minds.
On Thursday, September 28, our school participated in the Terry Fox Run/Walk to support the quest to cure cancer. As always, our community “stepped up” to the challenge and raised over $720.00 to date! We hope to raise $1000, which will directly support the Terry Fox Foundation.

HALLOWEEN FUN
For some families, Halloween is traditionally celebrated. In order to be inclusive at Blue Willow, we respect all families’ wishes and their traditions. For those wishing to participate, students may wear simple costumes on October 31, that are appropriate for school. *** Costumes must be comply with our school expectations and should simple to put on. Students are not permitted to wear masks, and students may not bring costume accessories, such as replica or toy guns, knives, swords, etc. This is in accordance with the York Region District School Board’s Safe School Policy #668.0. Compliance to this policy is compulsory for students from JK to Grade 12. Failure to comply can result in a suspension from school. If you have any questions/concerns, please contact the school office.
In order to ensure the safety of all our students NO TREATS will be shared at school. We will continue to offer students healthy snacks in all classrooms through our Healthy School initiatives. Please see more information about seasonal safety on our community partners’ YORK REGIONAL POLICE (YRP) website.

On October 3, 2017, our students and staff will be participating in a School Bus Safety Evacuation information session and drill. This session is offered to all classes on an annual basis to ensure safety protocols are followed and respected while travelling on a school bus.
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING AT BLUE WILLOW? Your support is greatly valued, as it adds to the development of student growth and school programming. York Region District School Board requires that you complete a Vulnerable Sector Screening and sign a Confidentiality Agreement, prior to volunteering. This includes participating as a volunteer for classroom field trips and excursions. Please contact the office for further information (905) 851-0043.
requires every child’s absence to be verified on a daily basis. We encourage parents and guardians to foster healthy routines and lifelong skill sets with their child(ren) by arriving to school on time. Late arrivals have many negative impacts on the learning and development of our children and their learning environment. If your child will be absent, late, or dismissed early due to an appointment, please contact the school at (905) 851-0043.
In the event that your child is absent and we have not been able to contact you or your emergency contact(s), our Board’s Policy is to contact York Regional Police for their assistance in locating your child.
Throughout our learning journey together, please be sure to ask questions, share information, and discuss ideas with your child. Should you have any questions or concerns that relate to particular classes, feel free to contact the appropriate teacher to seek clarification.
As partners in your child’s education and well-being, we are always willing to work with students, parents, and community partners to ensure your child’s learning is supported, and meets challenges with a growth mindset. As research demonstrates again and again, positive relationships between family and the school are fundamental to the ongoing success of your child!
