September has been a wonderful month of learning and growing at Blue Willow P.S.
We welcome Ms. Robinson, who has joined our Intermediate team as our Grade 7/8 Teacher, as well as Ms. Arduini and Ms. Costa, as our Office Assistants. On Tuesday, September 27, 2016, our school participated in the Terry Fox Walk/Run to support the cure for cancer. Our goal to raise $1,000 is well within reach. So far, our community has raised over $680.00 and we continue to welcome donations online: http;//www.terryfox.ca/BlueWillowPSWoodbridge.
Curriculum Night is fast approaching on Thursday, October 6, 2016. The intent of this evening is to share learning and curriculum expectations with parents/guardians. Grade teams will be presenting this information over two repeated sessions: Session 1 at 6:30 p.m. and Session 2 at 7:00 p.m. Individual student conversations should be ongoing and parents/guardians will also have the opportunity to formally engage in conversations during Progress Report interviews. We look forward to seeing you on October 6th and to continuing to build student success together.

For some families, Halloween is traditionally celebrated. In order to be inclusive at Blue Willow, we respect all families’ wishes and their traditions. For those wishing to participate, students may wear simple costumes on October 30, that are appropriate for school. Costumes must be comply with our school dress code and simple to put on. Students are not permitted to wear masks, and students may not bring costume accessories, such as replica or toy guns, knives, swords, etc. This is in accordance with the York Region District School Board’s Safe School Policy #668.0. Compliance to this policy is compulsory for students from JK to Grade 12. Failure to comply can result in a suspension from school. If you have any questions/concerns, please contact the school office.
Safety Tips for Children from York Regional Police
- Don't let your kids wear masks. It can obstruct their view and they could hurt themselves
- Use reflective items on dark clothing so they can be seen
- Although tempting, remind kids not eat any candy before they get home so you can check it

Three free sessions (6:30 - 7:00, 7:15-7:45, 8:00 - 8:30) are available to choose from.

International Baccalaureate Program Information Evening
The International Baccalaureate (IB) program is student-centred with a focus on developing intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills for students who live, learn and work in a rapidly changing world. The program emphasizes critical, compassionate thinking, community involvement and intercultural understanding. It is founded on international standards and assessment. Students who complete the program earn both an Ontario Secondary School Diploma and an IB Diploma.
We are pleased to announce the expansion of York Region District School Board’s IB Program offerings. In addition to Bayview Secondary School’s IB Program, YRDSB has four candidate school sites for the Diploma Program:
Current Grade 8 and Grade 9 students and families interested in YRDSB’s IB Program are invited to attend an information session to learn more about the program and application process. No registration is needed.

Admission to the York Region District School Board IB programs includes an assessment. At the time of application, students will select to write in either the a.m. or p.m. on Saturday, November 19 or in the evening on Tuesday, November 22.
There is a $35 fee to apply to this program.
